Two Poems from Jason Sturner
In Spite of Candlelight
She senses
Something past me
A bit like hope
Cast off my shoulder
To the wall
X, I want to
O, she can
I see
Something airborne
A bit like revelation
The tarnished halo
Of her visit
X, tonight!
But O, she cannot
She feels
Something for herself
A bit like regret
Slipping off the heavy end of a sigh
When she goes
Denied
She could kiss me
Swirl me into a daze
And awaken me
On a rosebud
She could taste me
Wrap her lips over me
And spit me out
As merlot
She could embrace me
Slide me inside a gift
And shout my name
Into history
But all she did was inhale me
Mold me into a breath
And sail me off
With a shhhhh
